We are pleased to announce that John “Mike” Kunnen ’42 has been appointed a “Chevalier” (Knight) of the Legion of Honor for his combat efforts in France as a member of the 709th Tank Battalion during the Second World War. Elder High School hosted the knighting ceremony on July 18 at Elder's Schaeper Center.  The Elder Glee Club Ensemble sang the National Anthem of both the United States and France.  Honored guests and ceremony participants include United States Representative Steve Chabot, Ohio State Representative Lou Terhar, Ohio State Senator Bill Seitz, Cincinnati Councilman Charlie Winburn, and Colonel Timothy Gorrell, Director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services.

While the halls of Elder High School are void of students during the summer months, this summer the halls, classrooms, and offices are being transformed.  Renovations began last year to improve the student learning experience and are continued this summer with the addition of improved lighting, HVAC, and campus-wide security projects.

During the renovation, the Main Office and most administrative offices have relocated to the Schaeper Center for the summer. Access to these offices is located on the Glenway Avenue side of the Schaeper Center. Click here for more details about summer hours and parking restrictions.  We are anxious to welcome back the students in August to their new and improved Elder High School!
