Elder High School senior Collier Smith (right) has been named a 2017 National Merit Semifinalist. About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, including Collier, represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. He will now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for a National Merit Scholarship. Collier is the son of Dennis and Ellen Smith of Green Township.
Senior Duncan Rackers (left) has been named a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although he will not continue in the 2017 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Duncan placed among the top 5% of more than 1.6 million students who entered the competition. Duncan is the son of Michael and Karen Rackers of Westwood.
