Elder senior guard Frankie Hofmeyer holds his Fort Lauderdale Beach Holiday Classic MVP trophy along side his father, Tony, on Dec. 30. Frankie passed his dad on Elder’s scoring list in the season opener.(Photo: Thanks to Phil Bengel)

PRICE HILL – It was an inevitability. The only question remaining was how Elder senior guard Frankie Hofmeyer would pass his dad, Tony, on the school’s all-time basketball scoring list.

All he needed was three points. At the banquet following his junior season, Hofmeyer said the team was given a breakdown of the all-time scoring list.

“I looked at his number (527 points) and I looked at mine (524), saw I was three behind. I pointed that out to him and he couldn’t believe it,” said Frankie, following a plane ride home from Florida where he was named MVP of the Fort Lauderdale Beach Holiday Classic as the Panthers won their third holiday title in a row.

KEVIN WALDECK '93 - IRONMAN ALL WORLD ATHLETE Kevin Waldeck '93 ran cross country for three years while attending Elder. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, getting married, starting  a business & a family, exercise had taken a back seat.  Eventually, he decided to get back in shape and live a healthy lifestyle; however, running in the winter was somewhat of an issue for Kevin. He needed an alternative way to stay in shape, so he decided to swim & spin (stationary biking). The run-swim-bike concept grew on him, and soon the stage was set for him to take part in his first IRONMAN.

Thanksgiving Day tradition rolls on in Price Hill
story written by Kurt Backscheider, kbackscheider@communitypress.com 8:38 a.m. EST November 13, 2015

PRICE HILL – Before carving up the turkey and digging into the cranberry sauce, area families will line the streets of Price Hill for a Thanksgiving Day tradition.
The annual Price Hill Thanksgiving Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26. This is the 25th annual installment of the modern-day parade, revived in 1991 by the Price Hill Historical Society, East Price Hill Improvement Association and Price Hill Civic Club, now called the West Price Hill Community Council.
“It’s a great neighborhood tradition,” said Cindy Armstrong, a West Price Hill Community Council member who serves on the parade committee.
“A lot of families come out and the kids look forward to it.”
As always, the parade begins at the intersection of Glenway Avenue and Ferguson Road. It then travels along Glenway to Warsaw Avenue, and ends at St. Lawrence Church.
Thousands of people line up along Glenway and Warsaw to watch fire engines roll past, view floats decorated by Price Hill businesses and community groups and listen to music performed by the marching bands from Elder and Western Hills high schools. The Seton-Elder vocal ensemble and the St. Lawrence Eagles’ Wings Choir also perform, and Santa Claus anchors the parade in his sleigh.
Armstrong said this year’s grand marshal is Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes, and Elder High School Principal Tom Otten and his wife, Bonnie, have been bestowed the honor of serving as the king and queen of the parade.
She said the Ottens work in tandem to make a great team that has touched so many lives on the West Side.

Following years of gathering input from our various constituent groups, as well as our own research and development efforts, Elder High School has implemented a new campus-wide security system which will provide an even safer environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests.
Visitors to the school are now required to use the main entrance directly across from the stadium to gain access to the school building.  Simply enter the first set of doors, press a button on the silver intercom box located just inside, and our receptionist will grant you access.  Guests with disabilities who require a no-step entry should call our main office at (513) 921-3744 in advance of their arrival.
Elder High School will host a very special Campus Showcase on Sunday, September 27th, from 1:00 to 3:30 P.M.  Many improvements to Elder’s physical plant have been completed over the last two summers and we invite you to come check them out!  This event is free and open to the public.  Graduates, current students, families, friends, and community members are welcome to attend!

On September 3rd, a very distinctive auxiliary sign was posted honoring the Elder graduates who served in the military and became casualties from the Vietnam War; either through wounds suffered in the theater of war or from exposure to Agent Orange and like herbicides.  These men are also casualties of the Vietnam War and this memorial will forever honor their service and sacrifice.  The auxiliary sign identifying these graduates is displayed as “Elder’s Twelfth Man” – graduates who remain nameless and timeless, but not forgotten.  Click the heading above to read the full story.

The weather was near perfect, the food was perfect (for a picnic), purple was the color of the evening and all of the faces had smiles—from the youngest to the oldest.  It was the Elder Family Picnic at Stricker’s Grove!  Hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream cones while serenaded by the Elder-Seton Steel Drum Band & Glee Club.  Then off to the rides, talking with old friends and meeting new ones.  Another unforgettable evening for the Elder Family.  Thanks to the Elder Alumni Association Board for hosting the event and working the grills.  Altiora!
