Freshman Year
Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament): brings the Bible alive for our students; one way is through the projects he has displayed for us today. Study of Scripture is one area we have improved on from the time many of us were in high school.
Building Catholic Character: a survey course of the Catholic faith, challenging students to examine how they are to live a Christian life. Using current technology, this course touches on a number of subject areas young men will be dealing with on a deeper level as they continues their course of studies at Elder.
Sophomore Year
Christology: the study of the four Gospels through text, videos, and lectures that bring Jesus to life, as God and Man, as Lord and brother.
Church History: the study of the Acts of the Apostles and a focus on the important teachings, councils, and movements in Church History. The course brings the past into perspective appropriate to the post-Vatican II Church.
Junior Year
Moral Issues: challenges the students to research and understand the issues of the day. Church teaching complements what they learn from their sources and from each other. Class debates serve as one means of instruction.
Senior Year
Christian Lifestyles: complements the freshman Building Catholic Character course, but places emphasis on identity, preparing for adulthood, and adult lifestyles (single, married, member of religious community, and ordained), An overview of Christian teaching with many out-of-class assignments which place special emphasis on family involvement.
