February 04, 2012 Academics ... Honors Program

The Honors Program was designed to provide unique opportunities and challenges to select students.  These are students who have proven to excel as leaders in academics and other areas of the school community.  The program began with 22 students in 2007 and now includes nearly 100 students.

The applications to the program have increased exponentially each year providing a larger number of qualified students.  To recognize these students and provide an experience making the most of their abilities, Elder High School has decided to expand the Honors Program.

The Honors Program includes two awards named for former leaders of Elder High School.  The Fr. Gruber Award is granted to 25 students each year. Fr. Gruber led the school from 1961-1970, the time that included the difficult years beginning the Vietnam War.  The Father Stang Award is granted to 15 students each year.  Fr. Stang has been the longest tenured principal of the school serving from 1944-1961.
