Mike Doyle '99 died in a tragic accident in 2007, but his memory lives on now through hundreds of grade school kids who participate each year in the Mike Doyle Summer Basketball League right here at Elder High School.

Grads Needed for 2010 Alumni Directory!

Grads, we need your help this summer in the preparation of Elder’s 4th alumni directory.

The Alumni Directory will be published by Harris Connect in late fall 2010.  It will include comprehensive biographical listings with contact information, career overviews and family highlights.  It’s a great way to keep in touch with fellow alums and includes current addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

You may have given us your information for the last directory in 2005 or previous publications, but to insure that you are included in the new directory, please take the time to e-mail or call Harris Connect once you are notified around mid June, 2010.  At that time, grads should be receiving e-mail and/or postal information from Harris Connect about the directory.  If you don’t reply, your information may not be included in all sections of the 2010 directory.

If for some reason you do not receive directory information by the end of June and want to be included, call Elder’s special dedicated toll free number at Harris Connect 1-800-735-1597.

Thanks for your help and have a great summer!  (05/29/10)

Jerry Schoenfeld '72 Working Through Daughter Ashley to Make Art

In August 2006, Gerard (Jerry) Schoenfeld was diagnosed with Gulf-War related Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease).  This neuromuscular degenerative disease has cut short Jerry’s ability to continue his love of painting which he had hoped to focus on after retiring from a distinguished career in the United States Navy.

In June 2007, during Father's Day, Jerry's 13-year old daughter, Ashley gave him a gift, a gift of love.  She offered her hands to him so he could continue pursuing his passion as an artist.  From this inspiring experience of selfless love GAS Art was born -- “G” for Gerard; “A” for Ashley; and “S” for Schoenfeld.  Click here to read more about Jerry, Ashley and GAS Art.  (04/25/10)
