There were approximately 71 students, staff and faculty members who registered to donate blood. Forty-six units of whole blood and 18 units of double reds were collected. A total of 72 units of blood were donated. Our thanks to the volunteers who did a fantastic job: seniors Daniel Schwarz, Michael Balzano, Tyler Sullivan, Alex Trentman, junior Jake Lindle and parent volunteers, Mrs. Linda Geil, Mrs. Judi Maurer and Mrs. Lisa Seiler. Elder will have a Spring Blood drive scheduled for Tuesday, March 27th, 2012. Please consider being a blood donor in the future. For every one unit of blood, up to three lives can be saved. You never know, you may someday be the recipient of the generosity of a blood donor. For more information about the blood drives, please contact Mr. Kurt Ruffing, Dean of Discipline or Mrs. Linda Giessler RN, school nurse. Class of 1961 Grows by One as Toby Heile Becomes Elder's Newest Graduate
On Friday, October 7th, long-time Elder Development Director and teacher, Toby Heile, became Elder's newest graduate. Toby received his honorary diploma as surprise gift from the members of the Elder Class of 1961 during their 50th reunion celebration. Toby grew up in St. Teresa parish, so most of his friends were kids from Price Hill. All of the Heile boys attended St. Xavier High School where Toby graduated in 1961. Toby began his Elder career in 1966 as a teacher, then transitioned to community relations, and finally to development where he served as the director for the past 30 years, all the while continuing to teach a class as a member of the business department. As the Elder Class of 1961 planned their 50th celebration, a committee of those grads petitioned (without Toby’s knowledge) for him to receive an Elder diploma.
Congratulations Toby and thank you for your 45+ years of dedication! Class of 1961 grad Dave Rickert penned a poem in celebration of his 50th class reunion. Click here to read Dave's poem "When We Were Young." (10/13/11) |
