Student Council
The Student Council at Elder acts as the liaison between students and school officials. Each year the council is responsible for setting the tone of the school year, generating new ideas for school-wide activities such as Elderfest, mixers and tournaments, run elections and student voting, participate in service projects, and organize the Senior Class Gift to the school. The Student Council is comprised of an Executive Board, Class Officers, Student Committees and Homeroom Representatives.
The Executive Board 2011-12
Comprised of four senior officers, elected by entire school.
President: Kevin Groll
oversees entire student council, runs meetings
speaks at large school gatherings
facilitates communications with other schools
Vice-President: Alec Niehauser
- primary assistant to president
- point man on new ideas and activities
- liaison with clubs—new and old
Communications Officer: David Huser
- responsible for establishing and sustaining communications with student body
- responsible for communications with administration and faculty
- press secretary to Purple Quill
Secretary: John Mussman
- assistant to communications officer
- records minutes of student council meetings
- maintains student council bulletin board
Class Officers
Comprised of divisional co-presidents, freshmen through senior year, elected by individual classes.
Senior Class Co-Presidents: Patrick Bailey, Cameron Kelley, Jack Marcheschi, and Stephen Robben
- also serve on Student Council Executive Board
- attend weekly and monthly student council meetings
- hold monthly senior homeroom representative meetings
- coordinate specific senior class activities like Senior Dance
- responsible for Senior Class t-shirt
- responsible for Senior Class mugs
Junior Class Co-Presidents: Jake Brunner and Kevin Kurzhals
- attend monthly student council meetings of Executive Board
- hold monthly junior homeroom representative meetings with Junior Class advisor
- coordinate specific junior class activities
- have input into both victory Dance and Prom
- newly elected co-presidents help coordinate Elderfest
Sophomore Class Co-Presidents: Joe Middendorf and Graham Swink
- attend monthly student council meetings of Executive Board
- hold monthly sophomore homeroom representative meetings with Sophomore Class advisor
- coordinate specific sophomore class activities like Sophomore Dance
- generate ideas for additional underclass activities, especially mixers
Freshman Class:
- hold monthly freshman class homeroom representative meetings with Freshman Class advisor
- coordinate specific freshman class activities like Freshman Dance
- generate ideas for additional underclass activities, especially mixers
Student Council Committee Structure
Each committee will be run by two chairmen. Applications for chair positions will be made to newly elected Executive Board members, who, along with student council advisors, will appoint the chairmen. The chairmen are responsible for forming and sustaining their own committees. Committee Chairmen are responsible for attending monthly meetings of the student council Executive Board, prepared with any relevant information.
Social Committee:
- coordinate clubs at Elder

Spirit Committee:
- set-up, clean-up for Pep Rallies
- comprised of seniors only
Pep Rally Committee:
- plan prepare and implement pep rallies comprised of juniors and seniors
Student Awareness Committee:
- coordinate Big Brother Program comprised of seniors
- Communications Officer and Secretary are de facto chairs
Service Committee:
- Plan Canned Food Drive and other service activities coordinated by Mr. Auer
Liturgy Committee:
- Plan school and class masses
- coordinated by religion department
Homeroom Representatives
Two homeroom representatives are elected at the beginning of each school year by their respective homerooms. One representative must attend monthly divisional meetings held by class co-presidents and class advisors.
Responsibilities:
- liaison for students and council, communicating ideas, suggestions, and complaints, attend monthly meetings with co-presidents
- report back to homerooms with relevant student council information
