Keith & Kurt Oblinger Memorial

Keith Oblinger, Elder Class of ’96, and his brother Kurt, class of ‘03, lived life to the fullest.  While at Elder, both were involved in many activities and were extremely well respected among their fellow classmates.  Both Kurt and Keith shared many things growing up and unfortunately that later included heart disease. In February 2005, Kurt was hospitalized with congestive heart failure.  His brother Keith, who had been diagnosed six years earlier with the disease, headed home to Cincinnati to visit him.  Keith died in a tragic car accident on his way. Shortly after Keith’s passing, Kurt had a heart transplant and decided that he would do whatever he could to help others with heart disease and to promote organ donation. He founded Team Oblinger to honor the memory of his brother Keith and to raise money for the American Heart Association.  The team, which is one of the largest teams that participate in the Cincinnati Heart Mini-Marathon, has raised thousands of dollars for heart research.  Sadly in April of 2005, Kurt had complications from his transplant and died from the disease that both he and his brother shared.  After Keith's death, a scholarship was established in his name at Elder. Now the scholarship includes Kurt's name.
