Tom Mason Memorial

Tom Mason started his teaching/counseling career in 1962 at Elder High School. He actually graduated from St. Xavier in 1957 but quickly became a proud member of the Elder family. He taught American History for six years and then became a guidance counselor for the next thirty years. He was very proud that he never had a sick day in high school, college or in his forty years at Elder. He loved being part of the Elder family and was well respected by his students and colleagues. Tom played an integral role in the annual Elder Food & Toy Drive for many years.  He also coached the swim team and volunteered at a local radio station and taught English to immigrant families and aided them in finding jobs and housing. Tom loved family dinners and outings, often bringing his special dishes to share. He was involved with his nieces and nephews and was always there for family and his many friends be it spiritually, financially, or just listening. Tom lived Elder’s moto - Altiora, the higher things - quietly, gently, in all he did. He passed away at age 82 on October 31, 2021, and this scholarship was established in his name.
